Vivre \u00e0 Toronto peut \u00eatre \u00e9touffant. Beaucoup de gens ressentent le d\u00e9sir d\u2019avoir plus d\u2019espace.<\/p>\n

Pour moi, c\u2019\u00e9tait assez sp\u00e9cial. Dans mon ancienne vie, j\u2019avais accumul\u00e9 beaucoup de choses. Beaucoup d\u2019\u00e9quipement audio-visuel, surtout. Entre mon r\u00f4le de d-j pour les danses de l\u2019\u00e9cole, l\u2019habitude que j\u2019avais de fournir de l\u2019\u00e9quipement \u00e0 tout le monde, ma participation \u00e0 du th\u00e9\u00e2tre communautaire, et toutes sortes d\u2019autres \u00e9v\u00e9nements sp\u00e9ciaux, j\u2019avais amass\u00e9 pendant toutes ces ann\u00e9es une grande quantit\u00e9 de mat\u00e9riel.<\/p>\n

Cet \u00e9quipement remplissait \u00e0 grands frais trois gros espaces d\u2019entreposage \u00e0 Toronto.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 chaque budget de fin de mois, on voyait que la location de ces espaces \u00e9tait la deuxi\u00e8me d\u00e9pense mensuelle en importance. C\u2019\u00e9tait p\u00e9nible de voir autant d\u2019argent consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 chaque mois \u00e0 l\u2019entreposage.<\/p>\n

St\u00e9phane a \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9 de trouver un garage ou un hangar que nous pourrions acheter. On avait besoin d\u2019un grand espace, tout en nous assurant que les versements mensuels pour l\u2019achat seraient \u00e9quivalents \u00e0 ce qu\u2019on d\u00e9boursait en frais de location. Ce qu\u2019on souhaitait, c\u2019\u00e9tait de transformer cette d\u00e9pense en un investissement.<\/p>\n

On a trac\u00e9.la ligne dans un rayon de trois heures de notre lieu de r\u00e9sidence \u00e0 Toronto. Toutes les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s qui avaient un garage ou un hangar \u00e9taient \u00e0 consid\u00e9rer : des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s commerciales aux ateliers, en passant par les maisons de campagnes avec garage.<\/p>\n

St\u00e9phane a fini par trouver quelque chose \u2026 \u00e0 Roblin en Ontario. Le hangar venait avec une maison et un assez grand terrain.<\/p>\n

Notre vie en a \u00e9t\u00e9 chang\u00e9e pour toujours.<\/p>\n

Le moment \u00e9tait dramatique. On avait pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 notre offre d\u2019achat, qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 accept\u00e9e, juste avant une sortie avec nos amis pour passer du temps dans une arcade de jeux.<\/p>\n

C\u2019est l\u00e0, au bar de l\u2019arcade, qu\u2019une notification est tout \u00e0 coup apparue sur nos t\u00e9l\u00e9phones. La NBA venait d\u2019annuler un premier match de basketball en raison de la pand\u00e9mie de COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Dans les jours qui ont suivi, tout a ferm\u00e9 en h\u00e2te.<\/p>\n

Nous avons \u00e9t\u00e9 parmi les premiers \u00e0 signer les documents d\u2019achats en virtuel. Les premiers aussi \u00e0 n\u00e9gocier l\u2019hypoth\u00e8que en ligne.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mais nous l\u2019avons eue, notre premi\u00e8re propri\u00e9t\u00e9!<\/p>\n

Ce qui avait d\u2019abord \u00e9t\u00e9 un garage pour entreposer les affaires d\u2019Ian et une mani\u00e8re de transformer une d\u00e9pense en investissement est vite devenu quelque chose de beaucoup plus pr\u00e9cieux. C\u2019est devenu notre place \u00e0 nous, notre chez-nous. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Les deux ann\u00e9es suivantes, marqu\u00e9es par les interdictions de voyager et les confinements, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 consacr\u00e9es \u00e0 profiter de notre propri\u00e9t\u00e9, \u00e0 entreprendre des projets et \u00e0 faire de cet espace notre maison \u00e0 nous.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \t <\/div>\n\t \n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Living in Toronto can be confining, and the desire to have more space is one that exists for many people.<\/p>

But it was a bit unique for me. \u00a0In a past life, I had acquired a lot of stuff.\u00a0A lot of AV equipment specifically. \u00a0From DJ\u2019ing school dances, to supplying gear to others, to doing community theatre plays, and special events - a lot of equipment had been accumulated over the years.<\/p>

And it was filling up 3 large and expensive Toronto storage lockers.<\/p>

Sitting down, going over the monthly budget, the storage locker rental was expense 2 on our monthly list. It was painful seeing that much money going out every month, just to store stuff.<\/p>

So St\u00e9phane was tasked with finding a garage we could buy. It needed to be a big garage, and the entire monthly carrying costs needed to come in at equal or less to what was being spent now on the storage locker rental.<\/p>

So a line was drawn, a 3 hour circle from our home base in Toronto. \u00a0Any places that had garages were considered. \u00a0From commercial properties, to shops, to country homes with big garages.<\/p>

And he found one\u2026 in Roblin Ontario\u2026 and it came with a house and some land too.<\/p>

Our lives were forever changed.<\/p>

The timing was poetic. \u00a0We had submitted our offer, and had just heard back that it had been accepted, moments before heading out the door to hang out with our friends at an arcade bar.<\/p>

While at the bar, the phone notifications hit\u2026 the NBA had cancelled their first game because of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>

Over the next few days, everything started shutting down in a hurry.<\/p>

We were among the first to sign our closing documents virtually. \u00a0The early few to navigate signing mortgage documents virtually.\u00a0<\/p>

But we got it. \u00a0We got our first property!<\/p>

What was supposed to be a garage to store Ian\u2019s stuff, and turn an expense into equity, quickly became so much more special. \u00a0It became our place. \u00a0Our home. \u00a0<\/p>
