\u00c0 Toronto, un des grands avantages d\u2019\u00eatre en couple est de partager les comptes. Assez naturellement, donc, on a commenc\u00e9 relativement t\u00f4t dans notre relation \u00e0 discuter d\u2019emm\u00e9nager ensemble et de se diviser les co\u00fbts d\u2019un appartement. D\u2019ailleurs, puisqu\u2019on habitait le m\u00eame \u00e9difice de condos, on passait beaucoup de temps \u00e0 tra\u00eener dans l\u2019un ou l\u2019autre des deux appartements. On avait un peu l\u2019impression que c\u2019\u00e9tait gaspiller notre argent que d\u2019avoir deux logements.<\/p>\n

J\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 faire des arrangements pour quitter mon 1 \u00bd et d\u00e9m\u00e9nager dans le 2 \u00bd d\u2019Ian. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque-l\u00e0, Ian avait un coloc, son amis Brien. Par un heureux hasard, il se trouvait que Brien cherchait \u00e0 se trouver un autre logement \u00e0 lui. On s\u2019est alors entendu que le meilleur sc\u00e9nario serait de changer de place avec lui. J\u2019ai donc transf\u00e9r\u00e9 mon bail \u00e0 Brien et j\u2019ai pu emm\u00e9nager avec Ian.<\/p>\n

Tout semblait vraiment normal, mais c\u2019\u00e9tait tout de m\u00eame un gros changement. Je n\u2019avais pas habit\u00e9 avec quelqu\u2019un d\u2019autre depuis les r\u00e9sidences universitaires. Et je n\u2019avais jamais v\u00e9cu en compagnie d\u2019un chien.<\/p>\n

Ian et moi nous sommes mis ensemble pour choisir les meubles que nous voudrions avoir dans notre nouvel espace en commun. Beaucoup de nos possessions remontaient \u00e0 nos ann\u00e9es d\u2019\u00e9tudiants. Nous avions la chance d\u2019investir dans un environnement plus adulte et un d\u00e9cor qui nous ressemblait comme couple.<\/p>\n

Un matelas king size a \u00e9t\u00e9 un de nos premiers achats ensemble pour notre nouveau chez-nous. Ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas n\u00e9gotiable.<\/p>\n

In Toronto, one of the big perks of being in a relationship is being able to split your bills in half. So it was only natural that conversations about moving in together and sharing an apartment started happening fairly early on in the relationship. Besides, since we were already living in the same condo building, we were spending a lot of time at each other\u2019s suites. It felt a little wasteful to have these two separate spaces.<\/p>

I started making arrangements for my eventual move out of my 1 bedroom unit to Ian\u2019s 2 bedroom unit. At the time, Ian had a roommate, his friend Brien. Conveniently, Brien was looking to move out and get his own place. We agreed that the best scenario would be if Brien and I swapped units. So I transferred my lease to Brien and moved in with Ian.<\/p>

This felt really natural but was also a big change. I had never lived with anyone else since my residence days in university, and I never lived with a dog ever.<\/p>

Ian and I worked together to pick and choose the furniture that we\u2019d want to have in our new space together. A lot of things we already owned were from when we were students so this move gave us a chance to invest in more adult furnishings and choose the d\u00e9cor that matched us as a couple.<\/p>

One of the first purchases we made for our new home together was a king size mattress. That was non-negotiable.<\/p>
