Comme c\u2019est souvent le cas, le condo Verve a un groupe communautaire pour les r\u00e9sidents sur Facebook.<\/p>\n

Les r\u00e9sidents peuvent y afficher toutes sortes de choses et lancer des discussions. J\u2019avais activ\u00e9 les notifications pour ce groupe, parce que je voulais apprendre les derni\u00e8res nouvelles de mes voisins dans l\u2019\u00e9difice. Un jour, j\u2019ai aper\u00e7u une notification au sujet de la piscine que je voulais justement l\u2019utiliser plus souvent, cet \u00e9t\u00e9-l\u00e0. J\u2019ai ouvert la page pour voir ce qu\u2019on disait. Il y avait une publication d\u2019Ian.<\/p>\n

Les r\u00e9sidents amenaient trop d\u2019invit\u00e9s \u00e0 la piscine, ce qui posait probl\u00e8me. Ian sugg\u00e9rait que le condo embauche un sauveteur, plut\u00f4t que de payer beaucoup plus cher pour un garde de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 qui serait l\u00e0 pour en g\u00e9rer l\u2019acc\u00e8s. Comme \u00e7a, on en aurait plus pour notre argent.<\/p>\n

Mais ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas le contenu de la publication qui \u00e9tait important pour moi.<\/p>\n

Ce qui m\u2019a frapp\u00e9, c\u2019est la photo d\u2019Ian sur son profil. Est-ce que ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas le gars qui travailait \u00e0 Sportsnet?<\/p>\n

Je l\u2019ai contact\u00e9 par DM (la messagerie directe sur Facebook).<\/p>\n

\u00ab Hey! Je ne savais pas que tu vivais \u00e0 Verve! Je ne t\u2019ai jamais vu \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s bien des occasions manqu\u00e9es dont je ne connaissais pas l\u2019existence \u00e0 ce moment-l\u00e0, on se parlait enfin.<\/p>\n

L\u2019\u00e9change de textos s\u2019est poursuivi jusqu\u2019aux petites heures du matin. On jasait surtout du travail. C\u2019\u00e9tait un sujet facile qui aidait \u00e0 briser la glace. On parlait aussi de la vie dans le Village et de nos plans pour f\u00eater le festival Pride.<\/p>\n

En fait, Ian se trouvait chez ses parents, cette nuit-l\u00e0. Le lendemain matin, il a d\u00fb s\u2019inventer une excuse pour s\u2019\u00eatre endormi et lev\u00e9 si tard. \u00ab Euh! Je n\u2019arrivais pas \u00e0 dormir\u2026 \u00bb<\/p>\n

Les \u00e9changes entre nous avaient bel et bien commenc\u00e9 \u2026 et ils ne s\u2019arr\u00eateraient \u2026 jamais.<\/p>\n

Residents post about various things and discuss in the group. I had set push notifications for the group on my phone so I would be alerted to the latest news from the building from my neighbours. One day, I notice a notification for a post about the pool. I had meant to use the pool more that summer, so I opened up the post to read more. It was a post written by Ian.<\/p>

There were issues with residents bringing too many guests. He suggested the building hire a lifeguard instead of paying an expensive security guard to manage access to the pool. Get more bang for our buck.<\/p>

But his post wasn\u2019t important.<\/p>

What was important is that I noticed Ian\u2019s profile photo. Wasn\u2019t that the guy who also works at Sportsnet?<\/p>

I reached out, slipping in Ian\u2019s DMs. (A direct message using Facebook\u2019s built-in chat).<\/p>

\u201cHey! Didn\u2019t know you also lived at Verve! I\u2019ve never seen you around.\u201d<\/p>

After many missed meetings and connections that I didn\u2019t even know about at the time, we were finally talking.<\/p>

The text conversation went into the wee hours of the morning. Chatting mostly about work. An easy shared topic and icebreaker. But also about living in the Village, and upcoming Pride plans.<\/p>

Ian was actually at his parents place that night. \u00a0So the next morning when he woke up so late, he had to come up with some excuse why he didn\u2019t get to sleep earlier. \u00a0\u201cUh\u2026 I just couldn\u2019t sleep?\u201d<\/p>

Our conversation had finally started\u2026 and it wouldn\u2019t stop\u2026 ever.<\/p>
